Stir it Up

Stir It Up: A Novel: A Novel by Ramin Ganeshram My rating: 3 of 5 stars I love the food network star show so this one about a kid star on the food network was fun for me. I didn't really know that is what it was about. However, I felt that it took a long time to get to the meat of the story. I did like the west indie recipes, and would consider buying the book just for those. Once things got going, though, it was a fun book to read. View all my reviews

Squish: Super Ameoba

Squish: Super Amoeba by Jennifer L. Holm My rating: 3 of 5 stars It felt like this one was a bit easier to read for me than Babymouse. Not so many big words, besides the ones that go with amoebas, and then I could look them up if I didn't know what they meant. I had no idea how science-y graphic novels could be! View all my reviews

Every Cowgirl Needs Dancing Boots

Every Cowgirl Needs Dancing Boots by Rebecca Janni My rating: 3 of 5 stars It was ok. I liked the message and the character is lovable. View all my reviews

Pirate Boy

Pirate Boy by Eve Bunting My rating: 4 of 5 stars This book is so great! I can't wait to read it to my baby when she is old enough not to rip the pages out. I hope my students can read this with their moms or awesome women who take care of them, too. View all my reviews

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

Take Me Out to the Ball Game by Jack Norworth My rating: 2 of 5 stars I don't really understand why this is on the 3rd-4th grade list. I get it for little kids trying to learn the song. The illustrations are nice, but am I missing something? View all my reviews

Three Hens and a Peacock

Three Hens and a Peacock by Lester L. Laminack My rating: 4 of 5 stars Did you know that everyone is important? Everyone's unique talents can be and should be put to the best use. Even if it feels unfair. It is better for everyone if we are all recognized for what we are good at, and let others succeed at their talents, too. View all my reviews

Dot

Dot by Patricia Intriago My rating: 4 of 5 stars What kind of dots can you add to this story? View all my reviews

The Pirates of the Sea!

Pirates of the Sea! by Brandon Dorman My rating: 2 of 5 stars To much pirate language for me, but if you like pirates, the pictures are great and the story could be fun. Tell me how you like it! View all my reviews

Pete the Cat: Rocking in my School Shoes

Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes by Eric Litwin My rating: 5 of 5 stars Love love love!!! I am so glad I went to the website to have it read to me! The song is so much groovier than I ever thought it would be. I can't wait for my 1st grade students to listen to this. I think it's a beginning of the year read aloud for sure - with the help of the audio! What a way to remind our students to chill out in school! View all my reviews

Bailey

Bailey by Harry Bliss My rating: 4 of 5 stars Oh please tell me that there will be more adventures for Bailey! He is loveable. I adored reading how he managed to go through his school day just a little bit off as he seems to always be - but with a smile! View all my reviews

Bear's Loose Tooth

Bear's Loose Tooth by Karma Wilson My rating: 3 of 5 stars This was really fun to read to those who might be close to loosing a tooth! The animals are adorable! View all my reviews

The Little Red Pen

The Little Red Pen by Janet Stevens My rating: 2 of 5 stars I think this one is better for older kids that will get the play on words and bigger ideas than the little kids will. The illustrations were beautiful, but the art of t will be lost on the younger students. My friend at BJH likes it for middle school and English. Me too! So 5th-6th graders... check this one out! Detective (Little Boy) Blue

Detective Blue by Steve Metzger My rating: 4 of 5 stars In order to really understand this story, one will need to know the fairy tales. Brush up on your Muffet, Dumpty, and Diddle before checking this one out! View all my reviews

The Great Race

The Great Race by Kevin O'Malley My rating: 5 of 5 stars Hil - larious!! I loved this story about the tortoise and the hare! The little puns made me laugh out loud!! This book is not just for little kids even though it looks like it. Little kids will love it, but so will the big kids that actually get the little inside jokes. Enjoy! View all my reviews

How to Survive Anything

How to Survive Anything by Rachel Buchholz My rating: 4 of 5 stars So I skimmed this one too, but the facts in here are pretty helpful. It will tell you how to survive something as scary as an earthquake... or 6th grade... View all my reviews

Weird but True 3

RRRalph

RRRalph by Lois Ehlert My rating: 4 of 5 stars This is a great book to either use prediction or onomatopoeia. My little kids enjoyed it, though too. View all my reviews
Babymouse: Mad Scientist by Jennifer L. Holm My rating: 3 of 5 stars This was my first Babymouse and it's a lot harder than I thought! There are some big words in there - and complex ideas. Just because it's mostly pictures doesn't mean it's for little kids! View all my reviews

The Unwanteds

The Unwanteds by Lisa McMann My rating: 4 of 5 stars This book kept me reading for hours at one time. I almost wish I hadn't read the summary so I would have experienced all of the emotions with Alex without a little knowledge at the beginning. The idea of the arts, magic, and war was intriguing for sure. What an imagination the author has! View all my reviews
