Review: 11 Birthdays

11 Birthdays by Wendy Mass My rating: 3 of 5 stars I listened to this books by checking out the digital audiobook and downloading it to my mp3 player. I listened to it while we took a long road trip. At first, I was kind of bored. Was I really going to sit this whole time and just listen to a story about a girl and her birthday party? Well, I kept listening and then the twist happened and I wanted to keep listening. I didn't even notice how boring the drive through the cornfields of Iowa was because I was busy visualizing the girl's party... over and over again. I even wanted to keep listening once we got to our destination. View all my reviews

Review: Dying to Meet You

Dying to Meet You by Kate Klise My rating: 3 of 5 stars I liked that this is a ghost story - but more funny than scary. It's a series; I wonder what the next books are about? It was cool how the story was told in letters. View all my reviews

Bun Bun Button by Patricia Polacco My rating: 3 of 5 stars What a great story to read over and over before bed. I love happy endings. View all my reviews

Review: Bake Sale

Bake Sale by Sara Varon My rating: 3 of 5 stars I really liked how the pictures told the story more than the words! However, you didn't need to study the details to get the story like you do in other graphic novels. Definitely a fun book! View all my reviews

Review: Bailey at the Museum

Bailey at the Museum by Harry Bliss My rating: 4 of 5 stars Bailey is at it again. Being mischievous on his field trip is a great way to remind all of our students of the rules when we are on field trips. Plus, it's funny and a nice book. View all my reviews

Review: Born Yesterday

Born Yesterday by James Solheim My rating: 5 of 5 stars This is a great book to show that writing about nothing in your day can really be something special when it's written down. My favorite part was when the baby ate some hair. My 8 month old daughter tries to eat my hair all of the time! It was fun to compare the baby in the book to my baby. If you have a little brother or sister, I but you will find this extra hilarious, too. View all my reviews

Review: Listen to My Trumpet!

Listen to My Trumpet! by Mo Willems My rating: 4 of 5 stars I laughed out loud at Piggy's "music." I loved how Gerald the Elephant chose his words very carefully so he wouldn't hurt Piggy' feelings. View all my reviews

Review: Giraffes Can't Dance

Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andreae My rating: 3 of 5 stars How nice to read about a gangly giraffe that doesn't think he can dance. He feels terrible and the others make fun of him. I sure hope Giraffe finds his confidence to dance soon! View all my reviews

Review: Cat Up a Tree

Cat Up a Tree by John Hassett My rating: 4 of 5 stars This was recommended by one of my 2nd graders who said it was "hilarious!" I giggled as I read all of the funny responses and looked at the pictures of the crazy cats! It's also a good book for counting by 5s View all my reviews

Review: Cat Tale

Cat Tale by Michael Hall My rating: 4 of 5 stars This is so great for homophones!!! View all my reviews

Review: Dark Life

Dark Life by Kat Falls My rating: 3 of 5 stars I know CV students will love this book. It is full of adventure below the sea. Any book that has fighting with outlaws is a good one for me! It also was fun to imagine what it might be like if scientists could figure out how to use the sea for us "Topsiders" to farm and live. It's the first in a series. I bet my students will be wanting more! View all my reviews

Review: Flygirl

Flygirl by Sherri L. Smith My rating: 3 of 5 stars This is the type of book that feels like a journey with the lead character. It took me a little while to want to keep reading, but after about 50 pages, I really enjoyed "spending time" with Ida Mae Jones and following her struggles and successes during her WASP flight training. Ida Mae was the type of character I kept thinking about all weekend after I had finished the book. View all my reviews
