100 Days and 99 Nights

by Alan Madison

That's how long it's going to take Esme's dad to come back from fighting in the war.  Every night she waits and hugs a different one of the animals in her bed-zoo.  She has an animal for almost every letter (except x - what animal starts with x? None that we can think of!) and the animals live on her bed.

I remember when I was a little girl, my stuffed animals lived on my bed, too.  I didn't have a zoo of them, but I had a lot.  I felt bad if they weren't comfortable at night - they even had to be under the covers so they would stay warm. My mom always wondered how I fit in the bed with all of the animals in there.

Anyway, this story is really about what it is like for the kids at the school on the army base when their dads have to be away.  It must be very scary if your dad has to be far away from you even if it isn't because of war.

I liked this book and I hope you do, too.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid - Cabin Fever

by Jeff Kinney I was so lucky to get the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book in right before Thanksgiving and it wasn't quite ready for the shelf so I brought it home to read it.  It was a great day to start my Thanksgiving.  It's another fun story about Greg Hefley and his diary of some time in the winter.  My favorite part was when he used mascara to paint a 6-pack on his tummy to look like he did lots of sit-ups.  What was your favorite part?

The Invention of Hugo Cabret

The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick My rating: 5 of 5 stars The illustrations in this book are amazing and the story keeps me reading! View all my reviews

The Lightning Thief

by Rick Riordan The first in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is pretty good. It mixes a current story with ancient greek mythology. I was never a fan of mythology, but this story kept me reading until the end. I enjoyed the twists and turns and would recommend it to any age 3rd grade and up!
