Snook Alone

by Marilyn Nelson  Illustrated by Timothy Basil Ering

This is a beautiful book about a man and his dog and how they are such good friends even though the man is a monk (a religious man, sort of like a nun) so he doesn't really speak. The man gets separated from his dog and the dog has to learn to live alone on the beach.  Some of the words in this book are kind of hard, so make sure you have a dictionary or a much older reader nearby to help if you need to know the meanings of some of the words in this story.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid - Cabin Fever

by Jeff Kinney I was so lucky to get the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book in right before Thanksgiving and it wasn't quite ready for the shelf so I brought it home to read it.  It was a great day to start my Thanksgiving.  It's another fun story about Greg Hefley and his diary of some time in the winter.  My favorite part was when he used mascara to paint a 6-pack on his tummy to look like he did lots of sit-ups.  What was your favorite part?

The Invention of Hugo Cabret

The Lightning Thief

by Rick Riordan The first in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is pretty good. It mixes a current story with ancient greek mythology. I was never a fan of mythology, but this story kept me reading until the end. I enjoyed the twists and turns and would recommend it to any age 3rd grade and up!
