Review: Abe Lincoln's Dream

Abe Lincoln's Dream
Abe Lincoln's Dream by Lane Smith

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I liked this book, but it was really vague. It seems like it would be good to read around President's day to spark an interest about Abe Lincoln, but it doesn't really give enough history to be read without more information with kids in 3rd or 4th grade. The illustrations are fantastic. It can also be used with older kids as a jump to compare what our country was like then and now and talk about some of the social issues that we still face.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid - Cabin Fever

by Jeff Kinney I was so lucky to get the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book in right before Thanksgiving and it wasn't quite ready for the shelf so I brought it home to read it.  It was a great day to start my Thanksgiving.  It's another fun story about Greg Hefley and his diary of some time in the winter.  My favorite part was when he used mascara to paint a 6-pack on his tummy to look like he did lots of sit-ups.  What was your favorite part?

The Invention of Hugo Cabret

The Lightning Thief

by Rick Riordan The first in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is pretty good. It mixes a current story with ancient greek mythology. I was never a fan of mythology, but this story kept me reading until the end. I enjoyed the twists and turns and would recommend it to any age 3rd grade and up!
