Review: Out of My Mind

Out of My Mind
Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wow! This one was so great! I don't know how the MN students are going to choose for the Maud Hart Lovelace award this year! It was so interesting to get a glimpse inside the thoughts of someone who can't speak like I can. This was written a few years ago, so myspace was the web presence of choice and for the first few chapters, I was thinking about how iPads are probably now being used for communication much less expensively than before. I was so happy to follow along with Melody's journey in 5th grade.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid - Cabin Fever

by Jeff Kinney I was so lucky to get the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book in right before Thanksgiving and it wasn't quite ready for the shelf so I brought it home to read it.  It was a great day to start my Thanksgiving.  It's another fun story about Greg Hefley and his diary of some time in the winter.  My favorite part was when he used mascara to paint a 6-pack on his tummy to look like he did lots of sit-ups.  What was your favorite part?

Review: Part of Your World

Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez My rating: 5 of 5 stars Well this was just fun. So fun. I laughed. I cried. I wanted everything to work out. Having grown up in a town that straddled not the city, but not far from the city. And having been guests in similar resort MN towns all my life, I can see this. All of this. And it was just a delightful escape from own life. And I LOVE the tie in fun the former series!! Whoo! View all my reviews

The Lightning Thief

by Rick Riordan The first in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is pretty good. It mixes a current story with ancient greek mythology. I was never a fan of mythology, but this story kept me reading until the end. I enjoyed the twists and turns and would recommend it to any age 3rd grade and up!
