Review: Brown Girl Dreaming

Brown Girl Dreaming Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow am I glad I read this today! This memoir of Jacqueline Woodson's youngest years is one of the most beautiful books I have ever read. I learned a bit about what it was like t be a small black girl in both the North and the South during the 60s. She writes about the relationships with her family members, how her family choices impacted her, and most wonderfully how she knew she wanted to be a writer when she was a little girl even though reading/writing was hard for her. I can't wait to share this books with staff and students as a great read aloud to highlight hopes and dreams!

Diary of a Wimpy Kid - Cabin Fever

by Jeff Kinney I was so lucky to get the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book in right before Thanksgiving and it wasn't quite ready for the shelf so I brought it home to read it.  It was a great day to start my Thanksgiving.  It's another fun story about Greg Hefley and his diary of some time in the winter.  My favorite part was when he used mascara to paint a 6-pack on his tummy to look like he did lots of sit-ups.  What was your favorite part?

The Lightning Thief

by Rick Riordan The first in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is pretty good. It mixes a current story with ancient greek mythology. I was never a fan of mythology, but this story kept me reading until the end. I enjoyed the twists and turns and would recommend it to any age 3rd grade and up!
